Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Matchplay collects when you organize and play rounds, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep it short on purpose — the round is the product, not your data.

01 Overview

Matchplay (“Matchplay,” “we,” “us”) is a mobile app for organizing golf rounds, tracking scores, and managing side games with your group. This Privacy Policy applies to the Matchplay app and the matchplay.golf website (together, the “Services”).

By using the Services, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Services.

In plain English

We collect what we need to run your rounds and connect you with your group — and nothing we don’t. We never sell your information.

02 Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Account & profile. Your name, email address, avatar, and golf handicap. Optionally, your home course and tee preference.
  • Match content. The matches you create, players you invite, courses you select, scores you enter, and side games you set up.
  • Settlement notes.Amounts owed and “marked paid” status you record after a round. Matchplay does not process or hold money.
  • Communications. Messages you send us through support or feedback channels.

Information collected automatically

  • Device & usage data. App version, device model, operating system, and basic usage events that help us fix bugs and improve the experience.
  • Approximate location. With your permission, your device location to surface nearby courses. You can turn this off at any time in your device settings.

03 How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account and profile.
  • Run matches — invitations, scoring, standings, side games, and post-round recaps.
  • Suggest nearby courses and recent playing partners.
  • Send service messages such as match invites, score reminders, and settlement summaries.
  • Diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and improve the Services.

We do not use your information for third-party advertising, and we do not sell it.

04 Sharing & disclosure

We share information only in these limited cases:

  • With your group. Players in a match can see shared match details — your name, avatar, handicap, scores, and side-game results for that round.
  • Service providers. Vendors who host our infrastructure, deliver notifications, or help us analyze app performance, under contracts that limit their use of your data.
  • Legal reasons. When required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Matchplay and its users.
  • Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to you where required.

05 Friends & matches

Matchplay is built around groups. When you add friends, organize a match, or accept an invite, certain profile and scoring information becomes visible to the other players in that match.

Guests who don’t install the app may appear in a match by name only, added by the organizer. If you later create an account, you can ask us to help link prior guest records to your profile.

You control your friend connections and can remove a friend or leave a match at any time.

06 Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services. Match history is retained so you and your group can revisit past rounds. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.

07 Your choices & rights

  • Access & update. View and edit your profile information in the app at any time.
  • Delete. Request deletion of your account and associated personal data.
  • Permissions. Control location and notification permissions in your device settings.
  • Regional rights. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, port, or restrict use of your information.

08 Security

We use industry-standard safeguards — encryption in transit, access controls, and regular review — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security, but we work hard to protect your data and to notify you of incidents where required.

09 Children

Matchplay is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.

10 Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of the Services after an update means you accept the revised policy.
